I was mesmerized.
The numbers were staggering: 15,000 people performing for an audience of 91,000.
The pyrotechnics were stupendous. The technology was stupefying. Many people have life-changing events that shape the course of their existence. In Beijing, the Olympics opening ceremony on Friday, August 8, was a world-changing event.
As I watched, awestruck, I realized that I was witnessing the last time one civilization would gaze upon the splendor of another and realize that a new world had just opened up.
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to figure out what I need to do to learn Chinese.
